Joanna and the monster

hello everyone, I hope you had a nice weekend. First, I will like to address a racial comment left on my previous shot by some "John" who claims to be from UK somewhere. If you are reading this I will advice you keep your racial comments to yourself and it is apparent that you don't know my subjects too well. Next time be bold enough to leave your email address for a reply.

Anyways back to this shot, meet model Joanna. This was a shoot we did in DC last weekend in the freezing cold. I like this shot because it looked like my camera was going to save her from this huge monster.

Hey what's going on administrators ? I read " John from the UK " from Dee's post of yesterday thinking I had posted something and forgot about it but I'm black so it's not me. I thought we had decided some time ago to stamp this sort of thing out so what gives ?

Damn, that's shocker, Dotun. I wish you played a bit, and made her scream, or put her bag in monster's mouth and made her reach for it.

Hey D,

The picture is technically sound. I am not sure what you were going for but I think it would have been better if your model did not look so calm. If you are really photographing the sculptur as a monster, it would be more powerful if she appeared to be fighting, struggling, or fleeing from its grasp. She looks beautiful but I wonder if that fits with what I think is the theme. What do you guys think?

Dotun Ayodeji: Yup I know what you mean and you are right on the money, after spending hours in a 35 degree weather you can bet that I have those wild looks too but I didn't like it as much for this mornings post. This look was more like she has already killed the monster and now just getting picked up by the helicopter(my caemera). She was supposed to show a sign of relief and a bit discomfort. I may put up the scary wild ones later. Thanks Black Pearl as usual.

Lovely photograph, Dotun - I particularly like the high angle. Also this is another classy black and white for me to study. (:o)

Wow, that's a nice model you shot there Dotun. You got a great facial expression from her. As for the rest of the shot, it's really cool, especially the B&W tones.

This is so interesting and very well done. The composition is spot on as is the lighting. But beyond all that, it is unique, visually complex, and inviting!

In response to ChiChi's (Black Pearl's) comment, I actually DO see some "distress" on her face, Dotun, so I think you have achieved what you wished. I see that you're really upping your game, as they say, so carry on.

And regards that comment(er), sometimes they are best ignored. They're not worth the time of day!

Excellent shot and processing. About the distressing look - if this is primary a model shoot do not change anything. If it is an illustration for some horror story book - the distress could be accentuated.

About John - even if you have his mail address, it will change nothing. You will send a reply and to what effect? He (if it is a he) has chosen his pseudo carefully. It is not for nothing that the boggs are often referred to as the John.

I'm sorry some cowardly sick pathetic excuse for a human being felt compelled to leave such a disgusting comment on your beautiful post of Zoey. "John" will reap what he sows. Just imagine what kind of pathetic life someone like that must have?

This is an interesting photo. I think a little fear would make it work however there is a sense of strength and power in this, as if she's conquered it.

This is excellent! I don't know what you did to get that expression onto her face, but it makes the shot for me. That and the strong, but well controlled tonal range.

Wow, that is a seriously cool shot. Nice work.

So sorry you had to deal with that horrible comment on the last shot. What a terrible thing for someone to say. You do a beautiful job of capturing life and joy and showing that we are all beautiful in our own ways. Keep up the great work. I for one enjoy it very much.

This is a really great shot - that huge metal face in the background makes for an amazing backdrop to this photo
