photoblog image Don

Don

This is Donald, I met him  on the stairs of  yesterdays picture(the church). He saw me twisting and turning with my camera trying to capture a good angle of the church and he said, "hey, can you take my picture and put me on the newspaper?..I want to be popular" I said, I would not be able to put it on the papers but I will put it online and he said sure. After the snap, he then asked me for some change, I had very little on me and gave it to him. As he walked away he said, " I honeslty would love my picture online so that the world will know that there's a man out there with a hopeful tomorrow".  I felt really very touched.

Don who is homeless is hopeful for a better tomorrow, he is sure that no situation is permanent.

The essence of this picture is that we should always appreciate the roof  we have over our heads and thank God that we can live to see today.

Ok, do what you do best for this picture, critique or comment. I usually won't center my subjects but I seriously felt I had to for this one just to get a feeling of Don's facial expression.

this is what photography is all about...helping people tell stories thru this medium of expression.... I am glad you have not only taken a moment to capture the photograph but also you engaged your subject. I think you should do a follow up story about him.. and try and get it published..if you consider doing a story and want to get it published let me know and I can see how I can help
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Abi! I will work on the story thing sometime. thanks For the inspiration.

thank you. this touched me. i was feeling vunerable anyways today - and this photo and this man, his words, well.. they hit me.

i am in a huge transition in my life and to slow down just for 5 minutes in my thinking, my selfish thinking, and focus on me and the kids health and gentleness.. this is what this photo reminds me of.

I think the picture says a lot as it is, with his strong expression and the peeling paint on the doorway behind him.

I think I agree with Abi, would you be able to follow it up?
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Ellie.

..eeehhyah.. i aint goin lie to you, when i first saw the look on Don's face i started laughing. Until i read the story then i felt like crap. It's funny how the very important things we take for granted, are or is what will change or make someelse's life better. Despite all that, i like the Elvis and superman curls going on wit his hair. An array of Tattoos...
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Yinca, we do have every reason to thank God.
Very touching picture and your comment makes it more interesting. This picture is amazing, his look is a mix of sadness, resignation, hope and in a way wisdom... remarkable to have catch this moment!
Nice of you to have make this man famous for at least a day !!! 86 viewers know that Don is here !!!!
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Frederic.

Wow! this picture could mean different things depending on the angle one decides to view it from. The wrinkles shows someone that has been thru several phases in his life. The expression on his face shows that inspite of what he may be going thru there is hope.
Stunning portrait. No words are necessary for this post, really: you just look at it & know the story. Too many of these guys around who need a break.
Hi Dotun. This is a very powerful image indeed (should I be praising my competition)?!!! Seriously though, it is so sad that no matter where one goes in the world, this sort of thing can be seen over and over, ad infinitum. Donald has evey right to be positive, I know I have been there at one stage in my life. Congratulations on a great pic. Regards, Neil.

funny to see your shot right after the shock of suby's. this is quite different, where the subject connected with you, touched you and not only gave permission but asked to be photographed and published. your interaction and the giving and receiving happening here ripples out and touches the world heart. he looks right into my heart, and you've captured an almost heartbreaking expression. it's a beautiful photo and thanks for adding the story.

as for technical, perhaps to crop in from the right, to the edge of the door.
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks, Shanti. Good catch on the crop, will do.
Great shot. Touching story. His expression tells it all-an odd combination of resignation and hopefulness?
great blogging!
