Test Drive 40D

I am taking a break from last weeks serious studio shoots but honestly I do have a lot more to share in that area. Here is a shot of a collegue of mine at work, this was a test shot so you can see I upgraded my 30D to a 40D, this is pretty much straight from the camera at ISO 800@1.8, I bumped my sharpness and contrast in camera and shot this canon's monochrome mode. I think this may pass for sunflower sees commercial shoot :) But really this was just one of those fun shots at work. 40D verdict - Good handle of noise at high ISO. Automatic sensor cleaning is nice. AF is fast, it picks up almost instateneously. More pixels is always good. Dynamic range is nice compared to 30D. Menu systems needs bit getting used to. I have had some soft images from the camera but I have to do some more testing to confirm this and no I do not work for Canon :)

Looks like a great cam..maybe I should have gone for that instead and spared my pocket.
Dotun Ayodeji: nah..the 5D still rocks its worth every penny smile
This is 800ISO? Sweet. Keep the camera. It's a good one.
Dotun Ayodeji: Yes it is smile I have about 12 more days to decide if I'll keep or return...you just never know.

That is impressively clean for ISO 800. Have fun with the new camera!
Dotun Ayodeji: yup agree

I noticed that Steve just upgraded from the 20D to the 40D, so you both are in a new learning curve. A lot of us are, actually, including me!

The first thing I saw in this photo was Barcelona, where I'll be next week, starting a Mediterranean cruise. smile Thanks for the reminder, Dotun.
Dotun Ayodeji: Buy some seeds when you get there smile

Excellent picture and congrats on the 40D. I had the opportunity to test drive one a few weeks ago. Impressive.
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Louis, I will keep you updated on a any weird findings.

interesting why did you decide on 40d rather than 5d upwards etc...just out of curiousity
Dotun Ayodeji: I shoot with 2 camera's so I still have the 5D. Although the 5D is still my fav but it's not as fast as the 30D or 40D and being full frame it gets to be a disdavantage when shooting with a telephoto lens, ideally I will like the new ID or 1Ds but thats just too expensive. I think Canon will upgrade the 5D pretty soon because it has lots of catching up to do with the latest SLR's(features wise)
Very nice capture. Very fine grain for ISO 800
Very nice. smile
Good fun shot Dotun, also contemplating getting the 40d, but money no dey.
I think you're right about this being a good advertising shot. Makes me want sunflower seeds.

I got my 30D in January. Maybe I should have held off until now to get the 40, eh? smile

Ahhh well, life goes on! Have fun with it!
Dotun Ayodeji: Don't worry PJ the 30D will be around for a while.
fun shot
i'm drooling at the 40d already

what lens did you use by the way
Dotun Ayodeji: I used the 50mm 1.4
Very clean shot. Did you do any processing to adjust for the ISO800? Or it's just that good of a camera?
Dotun Ayodeji: No PP at all, all I did was boost the sharpness and contrast in camera and took this shoot in monochrome mode.
