Tennis Dog

I watched this dog play on the National mall last week. Out of many shots this seems to be the only one that came out somewhat decent.

Superb shot, Dotun! I'll have to remember to have my camera handy when Meadow catches her ball or frisbee!
Dotun Ayodeji: Frisbee catch..that will be nice. Thanks Kay.

i love jack russell terriers! this one is such a typical sort of behavior you would see in energy, excitement...i don't mind that he's out of frame, cause you got him in focus so well, and the action is priceless! well done!

Difficult to bring off. I know it is about anticipation and some luck. To anticipate more correctly I would try to follow the ball and anticipate the impact.

I see you were using Av in your settings - it could account for why the bottom regions of the dog shows better focus than the top part.

I still like the pic as it shows movement and the makings of a good composition.

One question - my concept of a mall is a shopping centre. Here you have a National mall with lawn and a dog chasing the ball?
Dotun Ayodeji: Louis, I laughed when I read your comment or question about the mall. When I first heard of the National Mall a while back, I was looking for a shopping complex too smile But only to find that a mall has about 2 or 3 definitions which includes a shopping center or a public walkway so I hope that explains it.
As per the shot, it is hard to predict how fast the Terriers move so I switched from Tv to Av. I was hoping to get some motion blur out of this shot and the others where just too blurry for my liking so I chose this one, usually i would have done this with PS but I was feeling too lazy smile thanks Louis.

Hi Dotun. Shots like this are priceless and you have done amazingly well. I tend to use my camera on manual with a narrow aperture for action shots, but hey, you had one chance and you got the photo, that's the important thing. Kind regards, Neil.

This is just spectacular, Dotun. I love it!

Does your camera have a Sports Mode like mine does? If I were in that mode on my camera while shooting this dog, it would probably give me several sharp pics in focus. I need to use it more often.
Top class shot. Very well done.
Not bad at all! These are tough to get. Did you shoot burst?
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Laurie, yes I was in burst mode, high speed fps in al servo.
