Different

Something different today. I am sure when you first saw the thumbnail, you will first be wandering who posted a blank shot today.

I decided to re-visit one of my monument shots today(trust me I have tons of them stored somewhere). I am a fan of verticals so I take them when I see them. Nothing much done to this one. This was taken at night with all the usual things around the monument. I decided to drag down the brightness using iphoto and applied some sharpening. Hope you like or dislike :)

Simple, yet a good night shot of the GW Monument.
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Mia!
On my screen only the monument is visible. I don't know if that is the intended effect. I like the monument, but the large expanse of unstructured black has a bit of an unfinished look to me.
Dotun Ayodeji: lol...did you read my comment? you are right, that is the intended effect smile just imagine that all the buildings in DC disappeared and all you have left is the monument then it will really feel and look like an unfinished city smile Thanks Martin.
Great example of negative space. Interesting shot.
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Laurie, I feel the same.
Spooky. Leaves one wanting. Wanting what I am not sure. I would like to see a little more detail around the base. A little interaction and transition with the abyss of darkness.
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks John, thats another idea, I will see how that works out.

Kinda ghostly. I like the simplicity.
Very nice shot, try it without the white frame/line around it

Very minimalist - I like it!
very cool shot....
The white border finishes it off well. I like the off centreness as well.

I've been so indoctrinated with the rule of thirds, Dotun, that I find I want to push the monument a bit more to the right, to fit the "left third" vertical. Hmm. I'll have to think about this. But I DO like the idea of negative space all around it!
I agree with Ginnie. It reminds me of the “obelisco”, in Buenos Aires, and considering one can imagine the surroundings due to so much darkness, may be it is...
I like this one, and even I recognise the motif(ve?) in all its simplicity

Hah! I thought you'd posted a picture of "Washington at Night" tongue It's a lovely idea, and it works incredibly well.
