photoblog image Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln

Ok, I was supposed to post this on monday for Martin Luther Kings birthday but never got around to it. This is the statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln memorial in DC, the 16th US president well well known for his anti-slavery agenda. Right in front  of this memorial was where Martin Luther King gave his " I have a dream" speech, a speech I love so much.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character"

Martin Luther King Jr.

Great shot! You nailed the lighting, the composition, and perspective. I'm sure he's been photographed thousands (millions?) of times, but this one stands out.

I was in DC this weekend! But didn't get quite the effect as this in my Lincoln shots. A powerful pose of a powerful man.
The perspective gives this picture strength; the lighting gives it interest. Great, Dotun.

Honest Abe! As Ted says, this is one of the best shots I've seen of this memorial, Dotun. And that you have juxtaposed it with MLK Jr's quote is the frosting on the cake! Super!
Certainly well captured and finished off Dotun. The light and dark areas here work fantastically wellsmile
Dotum, opportune Photography for the occasion! Good illumination!
Well taken shot of Mr Lincoln from a difficult angle.

You know in faraway SA what we see most of the US is mr Lincoln, the Liberty Bell and movies - not necessary in that order. This picture is the best one of the Lincoln Memorial i have ever seen.

I have read the other day a comment by the ILO (Internat Labour Org) that if change continues as at present, gender discrimination will have been removed from the work place globally in something like 300 years. And that is only about gender and only in the work place.

One can cite many situations, variations and issues - but the core thinking that must be changed is that one can have a divine or earned right to view yourself as better than anyone else. Being different is ok, at least i can appreciate good against bad - but thinking you are better because you are good ... oh man that is where it all starts.
