photoblog image Faces of the Monument #1

Faces of the Monument #1

I hope you had a nice weekend. This structure needs little or no introduction, it's the Washington Monument here in DC. I have about 2 or 3 more pics of the monument  I will be posting as soon as a I get to convert them from RAW.  This was obviosly taken at night(a semi cold one). I only did noise removal for this image, as you know shooting at ISO over 100 introduces some noise.  Enjoy, critique, or comment.

Dotun on FIIIIRRRREEEEEEE....

You are using a 30D you can get away with shooting at ISO800, with being really effected by noise.

Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Suby, I am eager to try that. If the results look disturbing I am coming back for you smile
the symmetry and the colors works very well in this pic

ohhhh I love that ! I guess DOtun this is my favorite from your pictures, just simply great!!
hey dotun,

this is a spectacular shot. given america's relatively young age, it is rare that you stumble upon scenes that can be described as majestic. yet you have managed to portray the washington monument in a majestic pose. beautiful night shot and terrific reflection.
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks for the comment, I feel very proud of this shot.

Brilliant and almost perfect symmetry

.. you'd think they'd trim the trees on the left so they match those on the right!
Dotun Ayodeji: Lol...that will be nice.

A great shot. Shades of an ink blot. The reflection of the monument top has a red light that i don't see on the the original. Wonder what the intrinsic meaning of this will be?
Dotun Ayodeji: Thanks Louis. I believe it looks that way because the red light in the window is facing downward, thus its more visible in the water.

This is an ideal subject for ignoring the rule of thirds, which I think is poorly named. It should be "guideline" rather than "rule".

The symmetry here is immaculate. Excellent.

I think this also answers a question I was going to ask about the mother and boy crossing the road (your next post), which was "where is it?". I guess it's also Wasshington DC. Nice looking city anyway.
